Virtual Turkey Tour - The Hatchery

Eggs laid by breeder hens are taken to the hatchery, where they are cleaned and sorted...

then placed in sanitary incubators with carefully controlled temperature and humidity. Turkey eggs vary in color from
white to tan with brown specks. They are somewhat larger than the chicken eggs in your refrigerator.

The eggs are rotated periodically as a hen would do in a wild environment to assure the health and proper development
of the poult inside. The incubation period to hatch a turkey egg is 28 days.

When the poults (baby turkeys) hatch, they stay warm and comfortable until the time is
right to move them. New poults have soft tan colored feathers.
