Virtual Turkey Tour - Growout Operations

When the young poults are strong enough they are transferred to more spacious growout facilities.
They remain here for several weeks until they are ready for processing. Hens usually are processed when they are
about 14 weeks old. Toms reach market weights later, at 18 to 24 weeks.
Norbest turkeys may be raised either on free range facilities or in scientifically designed,
environmentally controlled barns that provide maximum protection from predators, disease, and bad weather. Turkeys are
never confined in cages, but are always able to roam freely and have constant access to fresh water, clean air, and
nutritious food.
No one cares for a turkey more than the turkey grower. The welfare of the turkey is important to
him not only for ethical reasons, but for economic ones as well. A well-treated turkey will stay healthy and grow more
efficiently, delivering the highest return to the grower.
